The saddest thing about the joke that Kerry made, is that as clear as it was to you and me and Olberman, many took it to mean that he truly did insult the troops (humor has never been Kerry's strong suit). See a certain email making the rounds on Myspace witha picture of a bunch of troops holding up a poorly spelled (in sarcasm) sign:
"Help us Jon Carry. We are stukc in irak."
The media did nothing to help this situation as they only showed the quote completely out of context. Which should finally put to rest the liberal media myth. Good friends of mine have passed around this email noting how proud they are to be former members of our service. Perhaps Kerry's joke is on them.
And the irony is that while those GIs holding the sign are obviously witty enough to come up with their clever photo op, anyone who has spent any time in or near the military knows that for some, the insult to the troops inferred by so many is in fact true. For every wonderfully intelligent member of the armed forces, there is at least one other member who is there because they had no other options due to a lack of intellect or education or both.
